Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada, but was raised in the United States. She's worked as a media critic since 1995. She created Feminist Frequency the site that features videos and comments discussing the depictions of females in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist, media critic and award-winning feminist for over 10 years. Feminist Frequency - a not-for profit site for education that investigates female representations in popular cultural narratives is founded and directed by Sarkeesian. In addition, she works to bring awareness to sexual harassment and attacks on women, as well as other minorities, she is dedicated to breaking down stereotypes that are in the popular culture. Sarkeesian, who has a Master's in Social and Political Thinking in the field of social and political thought from York University, is a sought after public speaking. She has delivered speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. Feminist Frequency was launched in 2009 by Sarkeesian. an undergraduate student at York University who had been interested in issues concerning gender and feminism since a long time. The ambitious lady planned to start a web-based series on the gender roles in video games and found herself the target of a harassment online campaign. The incident did not deter her from pursuing the project, and instead it bolstered her resolve as an activist for women in media. Numerous awards have been awarded to her for her contributions to the field she contributed to. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her work as a critic of media and founded Feminist Frequency. The non-profit examines how women are depicted in popular culture of today.
